A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT

A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Winter in South Texas—did we really have one this year? We had a few chilly days, but not many, and it’s hard to know whether to complain or count our blessings when so much of the country battled severe weather. The days are stretching longer, the warmth is returning, and the Mountain Laurels are filling the air with their wonderful fragrance. Those longer daylight hours are especially welcome for anyone who prefers to avoid nighttime driving—they give us more opportunities to enjoy our SPN events.

One of the biggest events of the year is just around the corner: SPN’s 38th Anniversary Party on Saturday, April 4th. Think about that—how many organizations, let alone a singles group, can say they’ve thrived for 38 years? It’s a remarkable milestone, and you won’t want to miss being part of this piece of SPN history.

Next up is our annual Kentucky Derby Party on May 2nd at Grace’s lovely home. You can cheer on your favorite horse, join the Derby hat contest (men and women alike), play “Left, Center, Right” or yard games, or simply relax and enjoy the food and camaraderie of friends.

Testament from an SPN Member

Many of us find ourselves alone after many years of marriage and raising children. This can happen suddenly and can be very overwhelming. I quickly realized that I was responsible for my happiness and well-being. No one was going to feel sorry for me, and that was the reality of my situation. I was aware of some church singles groups; and with a lady friend, I decided to try one out. Instead, what we walked into was an SPN birthday party. There we were in all of our glory, not knowing a sole, not really even knowing what SPN was. Immediately, we were welcomed to the party, introduced to others, and invited to have some cake. This was roughly twelve years ago, and I have been an active member of this wonderful group ever since. This is a family of friends, a place where you can walk in alone and feel right at home. I have an opportunity to participate in the many activities provided to this group by our Board Members. Yes, SPN has been a blessing for me. I have made many, really good friends. We are active seniors that find strength in knowing others in SPN and having someone to do fun activities with.
